Guns, knives, and clubs
Guns: one must close the distance so that the reaction time from attack to pull the trigger is actually in your favor. You see, for the attacker to pull the trigger he or she: 1st must recognize he or she is actually under attack. 2nd this individual must pinpoint where you are going (path). 3rd this individual must realize exactly where he or she is; that is, where the firearm is pointed as well as his or her physical position. Next he must pinpoint exactly what program to set in to play. Here is where he/she might conclude they must rotate left, raise the firearm a lot higher, and fire. Last of all he/she has to carry out the program. This all takes mental time and thru closing the distance you have actually reduced their successful response period down and also into your favor.
Knives and sticks ... you want to open the gap from your assaulter. You want them to make a long distance and also committed attack toward you. This sets you in a favorable position as they must move a long way to get you. You possess the time to see the attack, choose what to do and execute the plan. You also reduce their counteraction time down as you close in to disarm or attack. Much like in the gun scenario you have indeed reduced their perception and also counteraction time.
Also key in self defence that you do not mess around. You must disable your aggressor so they can not come back to damage you. What I mean here is you don't want them coming back up off the ground and being rather psychotic at you. You must ensure they do not want to continue the attack.
If you learn to disarm weapons you should also study ways to make use of that weapon if needed. You might just learn how to shoot or at least exactly how you might actually use that gun to your advantage. There is a weapon called a defender (self defense weapon) which is a small plastic, strangely shaped, weapon that is actually used on pressure points. You can see this at PDWS. biz. You are able to utilize most anything you pick up like| a defender and that includes a gun. A firearm can be employed on pressure points about the body or even against boney locations of the human body, just like a defender or even a Kubotan.
In conclusion, you are the weapon and anything that gets into your hands you need to understand how to utilize it. Firearm, edged weapons or clubs ... you must know how to use them for your own protection or the protection of your loved ones. There are great videos to had on these subjects, all found on the web. So I encourage my fellow artists to broaden their skill sets in martial arts and turn them into self defense skill sets too!

Flash Counterattack
Enjoy

Flash Counterattack:
When escaping a mob situation, a ruthless, all-or-nothing attitude is essential for success. The “Punch and Cut” was demonstrated on a striking dummy wrapped with a pork roast. The initial straight-line punch flows quickly into the downward cut to the face and mobility-killing comma cut to the quadriceps.
One of the most terrifying crime trends to emerge in recent months has been the “flash mob” robberies. Originally a semi-spontaneous performance gathering coordinated through social media, the concept has been perverted by criminals who now use it to surround and overwhelm unsuspecting victims.
From a self-defense perspective, the flash mob is an extremely difficult problem. Any time you face multiple attackers, the danger level increases significantly. Against a coordinated mob attacking in unison, you face a serious, potentially lethal threat.
There has been a lot of discussion in the firearms world regarding flash mob defenses. In the chaos of a flash mob, bad guys and innocent bystanders are dynamically intermixed, making clean shots extremely difficult. Even if you are able to get shots on the right targets, unless you’re carrying multiple magazines, your success may be very short-lived. This is where a knife has distinct advantages over a gun in that it is extremely selective and never runs out of ammo.

MODERN-DAY BATTLE AXE
Enjoy
Master Peter Brusso
MODERN-DAY BATTLE AXE:
Modern materials have changed the balance of the tomahawk, but they prove to be useful today as they were in centuries past. Today’s Viking Warriors would be well armed with the United Cutlery M48 Hawk (top) and Smith & Wesson SW671 Tomahawk (bottom).
Use the term “battle axe” and you instantly evoke visions of Viking warriors standing proudly on the bows of their longboats. Throughout history the axe had been used in warfare with devastating results. Like most weapons of war, the axe was a common tool used by man in his daily struggle for survival. Its more mundane uses could include building a shelter, clearing land for crops, and at times, it could provide protection. The battle axe is nothing more than an improved version of the standard tool modified to improve its use in war.
Depending on the race and origin, the battle axe has been designed for use in both single-handed and two-handed models with either a single bit or in double-bitted designs. While this weapon may sound ancient, it has a history in the New World. Prior to the European settlers arriving in the Americas, the native Indians had stone axes, but once available, they traded for the metal versions brought by the settlers. These trade hatchets soon adopted the native Indian name, “tomahawk.” While given an Indian name, it was used equally by both Indians and settlers and has served in conflicts since the founding of the country.
The handles are long enough for a two-handed grip and both handles held up well to heavy use. It would be nice if they had a method of indexing the location of the head during use.
The American battle axe, or tomahawk, has drawn a lot of attention recently. Most of us are familiar with the stories of the Vietnam Tomahawk designed by Peter LaGana. For such an ancient weapon, I am surprised that it would seem as if every cutlery company is offering a model. After receiving two examples of the modern tomahawk for review, I thought it was time to see if the tomahawk is a novelty or if it would have a place in the kit of the American civilian, law enforcement professional, or soldier of the 21st century.

Training at the Salton Sea
First, we are going to have a weekend training at the Salton Sea, my place, May 14th. I will keep everyone up to speed on that with lots of new material to show everyone. Should be a great time, BBQ and such. Camping on the beach or around the house is fine too.
Over the next few months I'm going to change the look of our website and our mission will change a bit as things are firming up in Hollywood too. More on that later as things come in but frankly we have gone a long way to getting to our goal there.
I will be producing more defender, self defense, self defense weapon, and other specials this year too as I have several in development plus some new training material to be had. I'm almost finished with a book too so that will be coming out as well. I found an old manuscript I started many a year ago, scanning that in and cleaning it up too so that will come up for sale later this summer.
Anyway, that is an update and I hope to see all of you Anjing Banfaests out at the Salton Sea!

Women's Martial Arts
Women's Martial Arts: "Women are possibly the most common victims of violence, be it domestic abuse, a mugging or the criminal rapist and this is no time for a woman to find out that her skill levels for survival are sadly lacking if this happens. It stands to reason this could happen, it could be as simple as being in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Ground fighthing

As many of you know, I'm a big believer that fighting will ultimately end up on the ground, and it is a requirement that you understand that submission holds are not necessarily applicable against multiple attackers on the ground. I just submitted an article that discusses this very topic and I encourage everybody to go take a look at link is below.

Martial arts teachers and self-defense features should be very interested in this short article.

The 3 laws of Handgun disarms

I have just uploaded a new article "the three laws of handgun disarm", up on hub pages.com. I have been researching self-defense techniques and programs on the Internet and I have been just appalled by what I found. So I have taken it upon myself to start a self defense set of articles that will cover my, broader definition of self-defense, then my constituents.
In this particular article I discuss the requirement that you disarm a handgun by the rules and not by luck. And most assuredly you don't put your shoes on your hands to protect yourself, as I saw one person do in a self-defense video, recently. What trash. I even saw another person decide to describe how you escape from me front choke, first by getting in a horse stance, and then starting to try to turn their arms off of your neck and then once you're successful to strike them in the head with a hammer fist.
Again what rubbish. It's very clear that person had never been attacked in her life. I can guarantee you that if somebody's going to choke you from the front, they're going to shake that the Be-Jesus out of you, and push you against the closest wall to knock you out. All in the meantime you're trying to get into a horse stance. What a horrifying advice is being given on the Internet about self-defense.
I'm a firm believer that not only should you be able to disarm almost any type of weapon but that you should be able to, in your own self-defense, utilize that weapon to protect yourself. Therefore, I have started a series of articles that will explore, from the top down, a broader concept of martial arts and or self defense such that, who knows, I may actually start a trend here. God for bid.
Anyway back to the article. I cover the concepts of muzzle control in this article and then, from the disarm making sure that you give distance, and then finally ensuring that the weapon is loaded and ready for action. Please all my readers go take a look at this article plus the other articles I have placed up on Awarriorsway.com. Here is the head link...
Awarriorways article page Also here are the articles link at our new URL of http://www.selfdefenseweaponsite.com and the articles are at Here
You will also see that I have seriously upgraded many of the product and DVDs at Awarriorsway.com and PDWS.Biz because I'm seriously trying to move our product out in both sales and in collective contribution to the world of martial arts and self-defense.
You'll also see that I have changed or interchange the name of the defenders to self defense weapon. This was done strategically as saying tag and as a keyword to assist us to increase the traffic to our site. Both sides will actually contain articles on women's self-defense, as well as, martial arts teaching and or training. I am trying to branch out our site being somewhat myopic to a site that offers more topic matter and education to other martial arts practitioners, teachers, and enthusiasts.

The three most important rules about teaching martial arts
In my 46 plus years of being connected to martial arts classes, teaching martial arts, women's self defense, I have seen the good the bad and the ugly. Teaching on the Matt isn't as easy as some make it look like. As a matter of fact, typically you'll end up teaching in a similar fashion as you were taught. Now, depending upon where you are in the world you're teaching style has to stay current. What I mean by this is that old world teaching techniques may not be applicable in today's environment. Now I live and teach in California and I can say with some level of authority that old world techniques, that is teaching techniques, are absolutely not applicable here. Unless of course you like to be sued. Old world, we could actually hit our students as a form of discipline, but those days have long since gone. I'm not an advocate of that form of correction however sometimes it has its place, as ugly as that sounds, to help reset a student’s attitude or focus.
The first rule of teaching is simple; no one likes to feel stupid on the mat. When you get everybody onto the mat, and it comes time for a demonstration or the like, no one likes to feel stupid. It's your job to have your students feel as comfortable as possible on the mat, such that they are ready and eager to learn. Learning can only start when you're comfortable. Other really stupid things I have seen is in regard to visitors. Many teachers will actually pull visitors out onto the mat and demonstrate how stupid the visitor is plus how smart a martial arts instructor is. Frankly, I see that more often than not and it's disgusting. So embraced the first rule of teaching and that is "no one likes to feel stupid".
The second rule of teaching is that people have to have fun. Let's face it, adults are really just big kids. Your lessons need to be fun and if you can achieve that you will set the groundwork for learning. So when you do your lesson plan, make sure that you can add the component of fun to your lesson. If you fail to make your class fun, in the long run, you won't have many students, particularly long-term students. Remember, the visitor that sitting in your visitor section, and they see how much fun is going on with your teaching on the mat, they naturally can't wait to get there. Frankly, it's one of your best sales tools. Regardless of your teaching women's self defense, martial arts, or even weapons training, fun needs to be at the center of your lesson.
The third rule of teaching is in fact people need to learn something. I don't care if you were doing an exercise class they need to learn something. If a student first off feels comfortable "not stupid", and they are having fun in your class, the last piece or key to success is in fact they walk away with some jewel of knowledge. When you think about it, what our students there for? They're there to learn, have fun, and not feel stupid.
So in summary, you can see that teaching, or rather legendary teaching, it is no accident. Fundamentally, people want to have fun and learn, and if you fail to do this you have failed as a teacher. Worse yet, because they didn't learn anything or they were embarrassed, they could get damaged or injured out in the real world because you didn't teach them. You didn't set the foundation for them to learn properly and therefore their experience on the street has a direct relationship to you as a teacher. Teaching isn't for everyone. But a good legendary teacher embraces these three rules and teaches at a level that is typically unheard of. You must teach every class, better than the one you did before. And if you can do this as a teacher, you will be surrounded by students for the rest of your life.
